Anapen® is a registered trademark for a commonly used autoinjector of epinephrine (a.k.a. adrenaline), used to reverse anaphylactic shock.

Anapens are commonly carried by persons with severe allergies and a risk of anaphylactic shock because they can be self-administered and are very fast-acting.

Anapens are regulated medical devices and require a medical prescription in all countries.

The Anapen contains a prefilled needle syringe combination which delivers adrenaline intramuscularly.

Dosages

The Anapen autoinjector delivers 0.3ml of solution for injection.

It is produced in three dosage strengths, Anapen 500 micrograms in 0.3ml, Anapen 300 micrograms in 0.3ml and Anapen Junior 150 micrograms in 0.3ml.

Anapen Junior 150 is recommended for children with a body mass of 15-25KG.

Anapen 300 is recommended for people with a body mass of 25KG and higher.

Anapen 500 is approved for patients with a body mass of 60KG and higher.

Anapen® 500 was approved by the UK regulatory body the Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) in June 2009 and will be commercially available from October 2009.

Shelf life

At manufacture has a shelf life of 24months.
